AkotoPOSSmarter Sales. Stronger Shops.

The POS built for how Kenyan shops really sell

Sales, stock, staff, and money — on the phone you already own. It takes M-Pesa the way your shop actually takes M-Pesa, keeps selling when the internet doesn't, and starts at KES 0.

Offline first

The network goes down.
Your till doesn't.

Every "cloud POS" works beautifully until the bundles run out or Safaricom blinks — then the queue at your counter is watching a spinner. AkotoPOS is built the other way round: the till works from the device first.

  • Sell with zero signal — the catalog lives on the till
  • Offline sales queue on the device and sync themselves when signal returns
  • Close the app, reopen it with no network — it still opens, still sells
  • Nothing double-charges and nothing disappears: every offline sale carries its own fingerprint

A real sale, rung with the network off — note the OFFLINE receipt number.

M-Pesa, honestly

Built for the shop with a green Till plate on the wall

Most POS systems assume every shop has API access to Safaricom. Most shops have a Buy Goods Till and a phone that beeps. AkotoPOS is built for both.

Just a Till number?

The customer pays your Till like always. The SMS lands on the till line, the cashier confirms it in one tap, and the sale is on the books — marked as confirmed by eye, because that's the truth of it.

End-of-day check

One reconciliation screen compares the day's M-Pesa takings against your Till statement total. If a payment was vouched for that never landed, you find out that evening — not at stock-take.

Want the prompt on the phone?

Ask from Settings → M-Pesa. We take your Till or PayBill through Safaricom's Daraja approval and prove it with a KES 1 test. From then on customers get an STK prompt at the till, payments confirm themselves from Safaricom's callback, and each one is matched to its sale automatically.

Everything a real shop runs on

Not a demo checklist — every one of these is in the product today.

A till built for queues

Barcode scanning, quick-add buttons, held sales and split payments. Ring a customer up in seconds on any phone, tablet or computer.

Sells without internet

The till keeps selling with zero signal — sales queue on the device and sync themselves the moment you're back online. Nothing is lost, ever.

M-Pesa, your way

Have just a Buy Goods Till? The cashier confirms the SMS and you check the day against your Till statement. Once we connect your Till to Safaricom's Daraja, customers get an STK prompt.

A drawer you can trust

Open a shift with a float, record cash drops and supplier payments from the drawer, and close to an expected figure. A shilling short shows up as a shilling short.

Inventory that matches the shelf

Live stock per branch, low-stock alerts, stocktake, transfers, and opening-stock import from CSV. Stock moves only when a sale, delivery or adjustment says so.

Expiry dates & lots

Milk, bread, yoghurt — receive dated lots and sell first-expiring-first, with expiry warnings before the loss, not after.

Serial numbers & warranty

Phones and electronics carry an IMEI from delivery to receipt. Warranty months print on the receipt; any later claim traces back to the exact unit.

Crates, bottles, kilos

Sell a crate of 24 at a crate price and a single bottle at its own. Weighing-scale friendly for cereals and butchery. Stock always stays in base units.

Wholesale price tiers

Your wholesale customers see wholesale prices automatically. Per-product tier prices, applied at the till with no cashier arithmetic.

Purchasing & supplier money

Purchase orders, partial deliveries, and a running account per supplier — what arrived, what you paid, what's still owed. Ask 'how much do I owe Bidco?' and get a number.

Returns & refunds

Take a return against the original receipt, restock what's sellable, and keep the refund on the books. No mystery minus-sales.

Reports that answer questions

Best sellers, profit, per-cashier and per-branch performance, stock valuation, expense tracking — daily, weekly, or any range you pick.

Multi-store

Every branch on one dashboard. Transfer stock between stores and compare their days side by side.

Staff roles & audit trail

Owner, manager, cashier, stock controller — each sees only their job. Every price change and void is logged with who, when, and which till.

Built for KRA eTIMS

Invoices are formatted for KRA's e-invoice system and a verification QR prints on the receipt once your shop is activated. KRA certification is in progress.

Tell it what kind of shop you run

26 shop types, each switching on what that trade needs — weighing for the cereals shop, expiry lots for the dairy fridge, IMEIs for the phone shop, table orders for the kibanda. Never a gate: every shop can still sell anything.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need internet to sell?

No. The till keeps working with zero signal — sales queue safely on the device and sync automatically once you're back online. We test this the hard way: phone off the network, app relaunched cold, sale rung, receipt issued.

I only have a Buy Goods Till — can I take M-Pesa?

Yes. Add your Till number in Settings, then the customer pays your Till, the confirmation SMS lands on your till line, and the cashier records it in one tap. At day's end you check the total against your M-Pesa statement — the same routine you already do, minus the exercise book. Want the payment prompt on the customer's phone instead? Ask from Settings → M-Pesa: we take your Till or PayBill through Safaricom's Daraja approval and switch it on once a KES 1 test payment goes through.

What hardware do I need?

Any phone, tablet or computer with a browser. That's it. A thermal receipt printer and barcode scanner plug in when you want them, but nothing is required — there is no terminal to buy.

Is it KRA eTIMS compliant?

AkotoPOS is built for eTIMS: once activated, invoices submit to KRA and a verification QR prints on the receipt.

Is there really a free plan?

Yes — the Duka plan is free forever, up to 100 products on one till, no credit card asked. Upgrade only when the shop outgrows it.

Can my staff steal from the drawer without me knowing?

Not quietly. Every shift opens with a counted float and closes against an expected figure that accounts for cash sales, refunds, and every shilling recorded in or out of the drawer. The variance is printed, logged, and attributable.

What happens to my data if I leave?

It's yours. Export your products, sales, customers and expenses as CSV at any time, from the dashboard, without asking us.
